-Welcome to Hunt's Home Furnishings-

To all customers of Hunt's Home Furnishings Past and Present,

First of all our sincere apology to anyone that has been harmed by this very un-expected set back we face as a Company.
The reason for the lock out of our business is due to not being able to keep up the lease payments required to occupy the building that Hunt's has been doing business in since 1984.

The original transaction to purchase Hunts in August of 2004 was done through a plan known as an Employee Stock Option Plan. It involved a bank loan from a local bank, securing the debt with the property where Hunt's was doing business. As the economy started to slow and  home building had virtually came to a stand still, with the addition of a huge big box store in Warrenton our business took a huge drop in business. We tried new things, such as getting very aggressive in the mattress business, and also the upholstery business. Many customers recognized our ability to sell product at a very competitive price based on not only local competition, but also compared to larger metropolitan markets. This led to meeting more customers needs, volume, not high profit drove our business. We felt the customer that supports our business deserved to be served locally, with good service and fair prices.

There are other companies that are better financed than Hunt's was, when the economy is doing good volume, with low prices the scenario can work for a small independent.  The mistake that was made in our circumstance is we simply paid too much for the company from the get go. Given an agressive finance package, promissary notes, collateral for more than the loan was worth, it added up to the disastrous circumstances we face now, all of us together.

The owner of the building made the decision to do what is known as a Self-Serve Lock out. He locked the doors overnight and served a letter written by a lawyer from Portland. We have had no access to the building, other than getting personal items. We have lost the ability to run our business, and yes, it was on a tight cash flow, but we were able to honor any transaction we agreed upon with the customer, up until the lock out. Again, we are not allowed to enter the premises without a threat of trespass and legal action taken.

We have contacted local authorities, along with the district attorney's office and have been told this is a civil matter.  There is no help available without hiring an attorney ourselves to fight it.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused to our customers.  Please accept our sincere apology.

Sincerely,
Hunt's Home Furnishings
